Kent Breakfast Accreditation Scheme

Following an inspirational morning at Penshurst Place we are delighted to say we are hoping to become part of the Kent Breakfast Accreditation Scheme.  Run by Produced in Kent, this scheme is aimed at  promoting locally Kent produced goods and ingredients.  At least 60% of the breakfast ingredients that we serve must be grown, reared or produced in Kent.  And of course since we have always done our best to do exactly that, we are looking forward to receiving our promotional packs and stickers.

As we state on our breakfast website page, wherever possible we use either home made or organic products and we do our best to use local suppliers, thus keeping the mileage as small as possible and helping to promote local businesses.  A new addition to the breakfast table this week is Owletts pear juice, grown and bottled in Lamberhurst which we will be serving alongside the usual orange juice.  Our bacon comes  from a small butchers in Hildenborough that raise and cure their own pigs and produce their own sausages and of course we have our own free-range eggs together with yoghurt, bread, marmalade and jam that are all home-made.  Even our tea and coffee come from the Kent & Sussex Tea & Coffee Company!  All we need now is a nice brown cow to supply our own milk and butter – but there are limits……..!!

We are experimenting at the moment with two breakfast menus.  The Charcott Specials which we ask guests to choose from the night before so that the chef has time to make and prepare them ready to serve as ordered.  And the Simple Breakfast menu which is available for guests who prefer to order at the table itself on the day.  Not actually that simple, as cereals, yoghurt,  juices and fruit are laid out to choose from on the sideboard, followed by bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes (baked beans optional!), with poached, scrambled or fried eggs cooked to order.  All topped off of course with heaps of home made toast and marmalade etc.

And here is a picture of Nick’s latest idea for a Charcott Special which is proving hugely popular with guests.  A breakfast cake made from a mixture of potato, tomato and bacon lardons, seasoned with chives and served topped with a poached egg – what better way to start the morning!
