Afternoon Tea

IMG_0707  This is something special at Charcott Farmhouse.  We often find that guests arrive tired and stressed after a long drive with slow and crowded motorways and by the time they get here they are  sorely in need of the chance to relax and chill out.   On arrival at Charcott they are welcomed into the house, shown their room and are then offered the chance to sit down either in the guests’ sitting room or, if the weather is kind, outside on the terrace, with a large pot of tea or coffee and a plate of home made cake or biscuits.   We serve this using a pretty, old fashioned china tea service and take much pleasure in watching shoulders gradually relax and smiles blossom.   Nick takes great  pride in the variety and quality of his cakes all baked in our wonderful aga, is forever experimenting with new ideas and often guests are kind enough to leave us with a favourite cake recipe so that we are able to add to the range.  Nick’s apricot loaf has been popular all over the winter months and he is now busy trying out further possibilities for the summer (if it ever arrives!) season.  So here’s hoping it won’t be long now before the rain finally dries up, we can forget this terrible long miserable winter and can look forward once again to long warm sunny days and tea in the garden surrounded by birdsong and flowers.
