Charcott Farmhouse is a pretty old sixteenth century tile-hung farmhouse typical of the Weald of Kent. Tucked away behind the tiny hamlet of Charcott and no longer a working farm, it now forms part of an attractive and peaceful homestead surrounded by open fields and woodland.
We are within minutes of many of Kent’s most famous attractions such as Penshurst Place, the National Trust village of Chiddingstone, Hever Castle, Chartwell, Knole Park, and Ightham Mote. Penshurst Station is a 15 minute walk across the old aerodrome with trains hourly to London Bridge. The Greyhound pub is a 5 minute amble down the drive for evening meals.
Hosts Nicholas and Ginny are both highly knowledgeable about the local region, are always available to answer questions and will do their best to ensure guests have a memorable and relaxing stay.
Guests are welcomed on arrival with a cup of tea and home-made cake or biscuits and have the use of a small beamed sitting room with colour TV. There is a large and rather untidy garden and in summer tea is often served outside on the brick terrace overlooking the lawn and roses. Ginny and Nicholas run the bed and breakfast alongside family life and are happy for guests to come and go as they wish throughout the day.
Penshurst Place with its beautiful gardens, Chiddingstone Castle, Hever Castle and Chartwell, home of Sir Winston Churchill are all no more than 10-15 minutes drive away. Slightly further afield are Knole Park in Sevenoaks, Squerryes Court in Westerham, Leeds Castle and Sissinghurst. And of course the cobbled streets of Rye, the spa town of Tunbridge Wells and the little known tiny church at Tudely with its glorious windows by Marc Chagall are all easily reached.
In addition to the Greyhound there are numerous other local hostelries and those looking for real ale need go no further than either The Castle Inn at Chiddingstone or the Rock in Chiddingstone Hoath to sample a pint of Larkins bitter. This is brewed locally in the village of Chiddingstone and is not to be missed!
For walkers there are numerous footpaths to follow and it has not been unknown for guests to walk to both Chiddingstone and Penshurst and back in a single day.
